What is Reachin Display?
It is quite hard to imagine what Reachin Display is like, before you have had a chance to test it yourself. The following quote is from The Sheerin Report Issue 1, which Peter K. Sheerin, Senior Technical Editor at CADENCE, wrote after testing Reachin Display at SIGGRAPH 2001. "The one display device that absolutely astounded me was the Reachin Display from Swedish company Reachin AB (http://www.reachin.se). At first sight, this contraption looks as if it might belong on the desk of a mad scientist, but having used all of its components separately, I immediately realized its significance. Take a CRT monitor capable of stereo refresh rates, add StereoGraphics shutter glasses, a SensAble Phantom Desktop force-feedback controller, and a LogiCad3D Magellan/SpaceMouse. But mount the monitor so that it sits at a 45-degree angle, projecting its image onto a mirror placed above the Phantom. And to this add software that makes sure the tools you're using to interact with the 3D stereoscopic image are mapped into the very space occupied by the tip of the Phantom, so that your hand appears to be working on a real 3D model floating in front of you. This is the most immersive, compelling 3D modeling experience I have ever had, bar none."
